A Fabulous Convention, just for You!, by Jason Dove, Vice President, High School

I hope to see all of you at this year's convention.  The High School Division of TCDA is proud to present an array of interesting clinics at this year's convention. Our first sessions will begin on Thursday, July 25 at 10 am, so pre-register to ensure you are ready to take advantage of these exciting clinics and reading sessions.

The Board has made significant changes this year, including offering 17 publisher sponsored reading sessions, and double the clinic opportunities for middle school and high school directors. Convention highlights include our first-ever Composer-in-Residence sponsored by the College Division. We are happy to welcome Dr. Alec Schumacker, Assistant Professor and Director of Choral Activities at Hawai'i Pacific University.  Dr. Schumacker will present three clinics, including "How to Authentically Arrange Pop Music for your Choirs." And TCDA is very proud to present its first-ever Elementary Immersion Day on Friday, July 26  (pre-register NOW to receive the special price of $100).  Also, don't forget to bring your copy of Rutter's Gloria for this year's Sing-In, under the direction of Dianne Brumley. Immediately following the Sing-In we will hold our annual Soiree in the lobby outside of the Hemisfair Ballroom!

Back to the High School Division! I am pleased to announce our High School Headliner, Dr. Kent Hatteberg, Director of Choral Activities at the University of Louisville. Dr. Hatteberg will present two sessions, "Engaging Singers in the Rehearsal-What Do They Need From You?", offering tips and techniques to enhance rehearsals and students' experiences in rehearsals; and the second session, "Finding Repertoire-The World is at Your Fingertips!", will address ways to find new repertoire - and how to expand your searches to find the right pieces, including music from the public domain. All High School clinics will include music packets! And, yes, you get music EVERYWHERE this year in the High School Division! Other clinicians include: Dorothy Wilson, Roxan Silva, Heather Orr, Cheryl Wilson, Danny Knight, Ryan Forkner, Denise Eaton, Arielle Sword, Gershom Garcia, Brad White and Patricia Neighbors. Check the website soon for a tentative schedule of all offerings!

Lastly, Region meetings will take place on Thursday from 4:15 pm - 5:15 pm before the Sing-In! Don't miss this year's TCDA Convention. I guarantee it will energize you for the upcoming school year!
