Voting within TCDA - We need your vote before Dec. 31!

The current TCDA Constitution specifies that only Active members and Past Presidents may cast a vote for election of new board members or anything else the Board of Directors may bring forward for a vote, such as an increase in member dues or a change in the constitution.

The Board of Directors is bringing before the voting membership consideration in allowing Retired members of TCDA to also cast their vote.  This would be a constitutional change and therefore requires a referendum.  Please click on the button below to cast your vote as to whether or not Retired members may be included in the future voting membership of TCDA.  This referendum will be open for voting through midnight December 31, 2016.  Active members and Past Presidents are eligible to vote.  Thank you.

Here We Come A-Caroling, by Billy Talley, Past President

Merry Christmas! I know many of you started working on your Christmas music in October. By the time December twenty-fifth rolls around, you are probably sick of hearing the sounds of the season. But can you imagine how empty Christmas would be without music? No "Silent Night." No "Joy to the World." No "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas." Well, you get the idea. The music of the Christmas season reminds us of good times with family and friends. It gives us hope for the future. It calms our souls in troubled times. I hope that during this season you will not get lost in the busy schedule, but will take the time to enjoy and savor these very special moments. Sharing our music with our community is one of the best ways to validate our music programs. More importantly, the chance to lift someone's spirits with our singing is worth the craziness of the December calendar. I will be retiring from public education at the end of this school year and one of the things I know I will miss will be Christmas caroling with my talented students.

I got an email reminder that it is time to join TCDA for 2017. I love being a part of TCDA. It reminds me that I am a professional and I belong to a professional organization. I hope you will not only join, but that you will also encourage a colleague to join. TCDA has so much to offer to our young choral directors who might not realize how helpful it could be. Just a word from a trusted friend might be all it takes for someone to join. Also remember that joining TCDA and registering for the convention are two different things. Join TCDA now, then watch for another email reminder in the spring about registering for the 2017 TCDA Convention. Can you really afford NOT to be a part of TCDA?

This will be my last year on the TCDA Board. I served as High School Vice-President from 2007-2009. I have been President-Elect, President, and Past-President for the past five years. Being a part of the TCDA Board has been one of the highlights of my career. I am so grateful for each person I served with, especially those who served as President and Past-President during my time: Danny Detrick, Bob Horton, Amy Allibon, and Jeff Rice. I have learned so much from each of you and I admire you greatly. I especially want to thank Sharon, Hallie, and Beverly in the TCDA Office. Without these amazing people, TCDA would be in serious trouble. It has truly been an honor to serve TCDA. See you in San Antonio next summer!
