About TCDA

The Texas Choral Directors Association (TCDA) was founded in 1955. The purpose of TCDA is to

  • Secure and maintain statewide cooperation within the choral directing profession;
  • Provide its members the finest in continuing educational activities;
  • Encourage continued growth through intellectual and professional development;
  • Provide clinics in conducting technique and vocal health;
  • Preview newly released music through the Summer Convention and New Music Reading Clinic;
  • Communicate timely and pertinent information to members through Texas Sings!, the official publication of TCDA
  • In early 2012, TCDA members will be able to search the TCDA membership
  • Provide scholarships annually for students and for professionals in vocal music.

The mission of TCDA is to support and foster the success of Texas choral directors and music teachers and to instill a love of music in every Texas school, church, and community singer.

TCDA is approved by the State Board for Education Certification as a Continuing Professional Education (CPE) provider.

GoArts! is a campaign to electronically gather a list of tens of thousands of registered voters in the state of Texas who believe it is the state’s responsibility to fund fine arts education in our schools.

TCDA is an affiliated state member of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) and its Southwest Division (SWACDA).

ACDA Advocacy Resolution

Whereas the human spirit is elevated to a broader understanding of itself through study and performance in the aesthetic arts; and

Whereas serious cutbacks in funding and support have steadily eroded arts institutions and their programs throughout our country;

Be it resolved that all citizens of the United States actively voice their affirmative and collective support for necessary funding at the local, state, and national levels of education and government, to ensure the survival of arts programs for this and future generations.
